Beware of EASYNEWS: Possible Phishers Working For The Company

I stumbled into something interesting for EasyNews. When emailing for support, a very suspicious question came up: They asked for the last 8 digits of the credit card on file.

Companies only ask the last 4 (This is what the credit card company allows them to see) The first 4 are the same depending on the company, that means the middle 4 are all that's left and that can be guessed. The last 8? You just told them those numbers.

Sounds like something is going on at the company. When I called them out on it, they did not answer me back about it and instead said that they went ahead and unlocked my account. The account that doesn't even exist. Turns out I emailed the wrong NSP, my error but I used the correct support email address.

  1. they've been a usenet provider for at least 10 years and I think a lot more. I've been a happy member for more than 5. They're not 'phishing'.

Companies are only allowed to ask for the last four digits of the credit card on file, never once in my lifetime have I ever had a company verify an account with the last 8 digits. I asked them for a comment and it was refused.
